Gender-coded wording in job ads

"Manpower", "he will" and "guys" quietly tell half the audience the ad isn't for them.

Where the rule comes from

Not every coded phrase is unlawful on its own, but wording that assumes a sex sits close to the Title VII line and narrows who applies. This rule is a warning, not a block.

What the check flags

Pronouns that assume a sex and collective nouns that do the same: he will, she will, manpower, guys, strong man.

Flagged

  • “He will report to the site manager”
  • “We need more manpower on nights”
  • “Looking for a few good guys”

Says the same thing, passes

  • “You'll report to the site manager”
  • “We're adding staff on nights”
  • “Looking for a few more people on the crew”

How HirePromo handles it

The parser rewrites the problem out of your ad copy, the original wording is shown to you with this rule cited, and you decide whether to change it.
